Lets hope for some good news on him! Too many great players going down but, it was called before the season began, just terrible when its top end talent like this!

Should the Penguin faithful whine and blame Matt Cooke to follow suit? I had MAJOR respect for Karlsson before this. Although never thought he deserved the Norris.

Hope we hear some good news soon on Geno.

Some GMs said before the season started that there would be a lot of injuries because of the intensity of the schedule. This is like playoff hockey every night. The problem is when top players get hurt it means the team's other top players have to step up and do more. And, this only increases the chances of another top player being hurt.

Compressed schedules could potentially result in an increased amount of groin injuries and other types of ailments that are wear and tear related, but a freak accident like this wasn't really any more likely due to the packed sched.

He's a big tough kid....but that whiplash effect didn't look very good....every team in the league will have or has had injuries....it a war of attrition.

I do believe the level of intensity has been ratcheted up. Gudbranson said he was only finishing his check. But everyone is finishing hard checks all over the ice, there is no let up. Players are going every second night, no rest periods for healing. Attrition rates are high.

It's definitely tight. There is a 2 point delta between 7th and 1st in the east. You certainly wouldn't see this level of intensity in the first 1/3rd of the season, if it was a full compliment of 82 games.

The Pens haven't been able to keep both Malkin and Crosby on the ice together for a long time and that's a shame. Hopefully Malkin doesn't miss too much action.

actually was shocked a penalty wasn't called. generally whenever malkin or crosby falls down, the refs arm goes up?

Nope, not good at all.

Inside sources claim they saw Geno attempting to phone his friends and family in the mother land, but he was having noticeable difficulty finding the numbers on his banana.

Just saw the play. He hitted the board pretty hard.
I don't think this was penality material but just hate to see another elite player go down again.
IMO, I'd be surprise to see Malkin back on the ice any time soon.

Hopefully it's a short term thing, but the main thing is, is that he returns healthy.

I'm guessing Sutter slides down to the work with Neal, and hopefully Bennett. That line on paper actually makes a lot of sense. You have a trigger man wing, a playmaking wing, and a center who plays all 200 feet and has a good mix of skill.

Oh joy another concussion to one of the team's superstar players.

It was just a hockey play that unfortunately resulted in an injury. I have no problem with what Gudbrunson did. I would want a Penguin defenseman to do the exact same thing if he was in that position.

He really got whiplashed hard. Now we just sit and play the waiting game. That sounds familiar doesn't it?

Erik Gudbranson, born January 7, 1992, Ottawa, Ontario

And the conspiracy theories should start flying soonish...

Seriously though, sucks that he's hurt. It's an unfortunate occupational risk for pro athletes.

I believe we go after a top 6 player. It's not like we were not in need of one before Malkin's injury. Cullen sounds good to me as he can play C and W.

Looked bad. If there is any good new, its that the Pens have more experience in dealing with this stuff than just about anyone. Hopefully he'll be back soon...

That was ugly whiplash. Let's just hope it's a couple of weeks, not months. Looked clean to me.

I can't help but think the new 1st line will be Sid,Neal,Kunitz. Disco will say they're just going to slide Sutter up, but let's be honest, his line mixing starts 2 minutes into a game.

Well Malkins injury is truly devastating. No concussions are the same, but there is a chance we don't see him in the playoffs. You've got to believe Shero will be waiting as long as possible to make a trade to see how Malkin is progressing.

Is there anyone that's been rumored on the trade block who can play center and wing?

I'm surprised that DiPietro successfully cleared waivers. Not suprised that no one claimed him, but that he actually cleared waivers without getting hurt.
